The fastest combat jet is the Russian Mikoyan MiG-25 fighter (NATO code name `Foxbat'). The reconnaissance `Foxbat-B' has been tracked by radar at about Mach 3.2 (3,395 km/h 2,110 mph).
The Su-35 does not only appear to be the more powerful of the two, but it also is the expensive one. The MiG-35, however, retains significant advantages, such as operational costs.
The Su-27 is more nimble at sea level and medium altitude than it is above 8,000 meters (26,200 feet), while the MiG-29 is better at higher altitude. The maneuvering capabilities of the Flanker are excellent, of course.
By being patient and by keeping airspeed up around 325 knots, an F-16 can bring the MiG-29 to its nose. But the pilot must still be careful of the across-the-circle shot with that helmet-mounted display.”
MiG-29 Jets – What Makes Them Unique
Despite issues with engine reliability, the MiG-29 with its 27-ton maximum weight seemingly works better in high altitudes than heavier fighter jets like Su-30MKIs. The MiG-29's superior performance in challenging environments, compared to the bulkier Sukhoi jets is old news now.
The fighter has vastly improved avionics and weapon systems compared to early variants of MiG-29, notably new precision-guided targeting capability and the uniquely designed optical locator system, which relieves the aircraft from relying on ground-controlled interception systems and enables it to conduct independent ...
The Sukhoi Su-35 (Russian: Сухой Су-35; NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) is the designation for two improved derivatives of the Su-27 air-defence fighter. They are single-seat, twin-engine, supermaneuverable aircraft, designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and built by Sukhoi.
When it comes to production, the F-35 simply beats the Su-57 before either aircraft can even be cleared for takeoff.
The F-22 Raptor is the most powerful air superiority fighter in the world, while the F-35 is probably the most advanced multirole fighter right now.
Can the MiG-31 hit Mach 3?
Its D30-F6 jet engines, each rated at 152 kN thrust, allow a maximum speed of Mach 1.23 at low altitude. High-altitude speed is temperature-redlined to Mach 2.83 – the thrust-to-drag ratio is sufficient for speeds in excess of Mach 3, but such speeds pose unacceptable hazards to engine and airframe life in routine use.
MiG-21 fighter (Soviet Union)
The Russian aerospace design bureau's MiG-21, a lightweight single-engine interceptor capable of flying at twice the speed of sound, was introduced in 1955.

A Mig-25 or Mig-31 has never fired a missile at an SR-71. SR-71 Pilots state that the Mig-25/31 never posed a serious threat to their aircraft. The Mig-25 can only sustain Mach 2.8 for a short duration due to engine overheat. The Mig-25 can only sustain an altitude of 78,740 feet for two minutes maximum.
The US dominates the airspace when it comes to the world's most advanced fighter jets.
More than a fighter jet, the F-35's ability to collect, analyze and share data, is a powerful force multiplier that enhances all airborne, surface and ground-based assets in the battlespace.
At longer ranges, the F-15C and the F-15E still have the advantage over the Su-35 with their active electronically scanned array radars. The Raytheon APG-63 (v) 3 and APG-82 (v)1 on the two Eagle variants are still considerably superior to the Su-35's Tikhomirov IRBIS-E phased array radar.
The MiG-29 is comparable to the American F-16 and F/A-18 fighter. The MiG-29 Fulcrum has become the favorite fighter in the Russian Air Force and different modified versions currently operate in more then 25 countries round the world.
With the helmet mounted display (HMD) along with the Vympel R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 Archer) off-boresight short-range air-to-air missile, the MiG-29 Fulcrums had a clear advantage in dogfights over the Western counterpart, the US Air Force F/A-18 Hornet.
The Chengdu J-20 (Chinese: 歼-20; pinyin: Jiān-Èrlíng), also known as Mighty Dragon (Chinese: 威龙; pinyin: Wēilóng), is a twinjet all-weather stealth fighter aircraft developed by China's Chengdu Aerospace Corporation for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).
“The major weaknesses of [early] MiG-29 variants was inadequate range due to low fuel capacity and engines with high fuel consumption,” Bronk explained. Mikoyan partially fixed this problem with the recent MiG-29SMT version of the fighter, which features a large dorsal spine carrying extra fuel.
What replaced the MiG-29?
By the end of 1991, almost 1,200 single-seater MiG-29 Izdeliye 9-12s and 9-13s, as well as 200 MiG-29UB Izdeliye 9-51s, were manufactured with majority entering in service of Soviet Air Force and Air Defense Force.
Cobra can be done by MiG-29 and Su-27
The aircraft reaches 90–120° angle of attack during the Cobra.
However, despite all of its advanced specifications, the F-22 Raptor once got shot down by a fourth-gen fighter jet – Dassault's Rafale.
Why is MiG-21 so accident-prone? While each aircraft accident is separately investigated and several of them have unique reasons, accidents in past have broadly been credited to technical defects, human error and bird hits, according to The Indian Express.
The only reported F-16 loss was an IDF F-16I that crashed on 19 July when one of its tires burst as it took off for Lebanon from an air base in the Negev. The pilots ejected safely and there were no casualties on the ground.
In the novel it is stated that the MiG-29 'Fulcrum' is in fact either directly copied from, or simply closely based on the F-14 'Tomcat'.
WASHINGTON — Jared Isaacman, a billionaire and astronaut, may be the only American individual to own a MiG-29 — the Russian-built fighter jet line that has become the center of an international diplomatic conundrum in the global effort to aid Ukraine.
The infamous name 'flying coffins' or the 'widow maker' was given to these planes because of the lives these planes have claimed and that too in normal sorties and training missions, leave the combat and dogfights scenario.
Lockheed Martin Corp. has delivered more than 800 F-35 fighter jets, but production is still marred by excessive defects and rework that risk substantial delivery delays and reduced readiness, according to the Pentagon's Defense Contract Management Agency.

Can F-35 drop nukes?
The F-35A is the first fifth-generation fighter to near certification as a nuclear-capable platform after completing the first full weapon system demonstration and completing the nuclear design certification process.
Furthermore, the military attractiveness of the Su-35 as a multi-purpose fighter bomber has been diminished since Russia has reportedly lost two squadrons in Ukraine due to various defects.
To improve agility and maneuverability at high speeds and altitudes, the Su-57 has 3D thrust vectoring controls installed. In comparison to the F-22 Raptor, the Su-57's 3D thrust vectoring control capability is thought to be superior.
The Su-57 is marketed as stealth fighter but radars have between 6 to 10 times greater detection range against the Felon compared to F-22 & F-35. Here's why.

And yet, the MiG-29 is respected as one dangerous fighter jet for many clear and obvious reasons: Despite its origins in the final years of the Cold War, Russia's modern MiG-29 multirole fighter aircraft variants are some of the most up-to-date in Russian service today.
Below 200 knots, the MiG-29 has incredible nose-pointing capability down to below 100 knots. The F-16, however, enjoys an advantage in the 200 knot-plus regime. At higher speeds, we can power above them to go to the vertical. And our turn rate is significantly better.
The Su-57 first flew on 29 January 2010. The first production Su-57 was delivered to the Russian Air Force on 25 December 2020. The Mikoyan PAK DP is another proposed fifth-generation fighter, being developed to replace the MiG-31.
It's one of 17 MiG-29s the U.S. government purchased from the former Soviet state of Moldova in 1997, a deal that kept the jets from being sold to Iran.
Federal Aviation Administration records show only two MiG-29 owners in the U.S. The other is Air USA, another company that provides aggressor squads to train U.S. military pilots, but Isaacman said he doubted their planes are still airworthy.
How many MiG-31 does Russia have?
As per an estimate, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have around 252 MiG-31s in their inventory. Moscow began upgrading these Foxhounds to the MiG-31BM and BSM variant in 2010 with plans to have 100 upgraded by 2020.
The original MiG-29 has proven its value in close combat dogfights. The pilot of the fighter has sights in their helmet that helps him launch missiles with accuracy. The very maneuverable R-73 missile is one of the most capable and powerful available air-to-air weapons in the aircraft.
